Gin and prosecco

Every count on this page is taken from its cocktail library: 80 recipes, each carrying the rules that decide whether a bottle on your shelf satisfies an ingredient. That's the same engine the app runs on, so nothing here is an estimate.

A French 75 is a sour lengthened with bubbles instead of soda, which is the whole trick of it. Gin, lemon and sugar make the sour; the prosecco does the job the soda does in a gin fizz, and brings its own acidity with it. Use something dry. Anything delicate is lost the moment it meets the lemon, so this isn't the bottle to open something special for.

One thing the recipes settle for you: Barello treats prosecco, champagne, cava and crémant as the same bottle, because the matching rule behind every sparkling recipe here accepts all of them. The Bellini's ingredient list names prosecco because that's what a Bellini is, not because the rule insists on it. Whatever dry sparkling is in the fridge will do.

Of the 435 ways to pick two bottles out of this library, only 23 have a drink that uses both. Most pairs are two bottles doing separate jobs. This one does both: 13 drinks between them, and a French 75 that neither could make alone. The table for every pair has the rest.
