Barello

I moved house and found wine I had forgotten I owned

Barello is a home cellar and bar for the whole house: what is ready to drink, what to open with dinner, and what you can mix from the bottles already on your shelf. It exists because packing up a house showed me how much I owned, and how little of it I was actually using.

The wine I forgot I had

Bottles turn up in the back of a cupboard when you move. Some of them I was pleased to see. Some had been waiting for a night that quietly passed. Nothing had gone wrong exactly. I had just never had a way of seeing what I owned all at once, so the bottles I could picture were the only ones that existed.

Your whole cellar, in one place

Everything you own, visible at once and shared with the rest of the house. Nothing waits at the back for a night you have already missed.

The same bottle, every time

Here is the part that took longer to admit. Even standing in front of the wine, I reached for the same thing. Not because it suited what we were eating, but because it was the one I could remember, and six o'clock on a weeknight is not when anyone does their best thinking. I was cooking properly and drinking on autopilot.

What to open with dinner

Say what you are cooking and Barello works from the bottles you actually have, so the pairing is a real option tonight rather than a recommendation to go shopping.

Where a bottle sits changes what it is

I had never taken storage seriously either. A wine in a kitchen cupboard that swings with the seasons is on a completely different clock to the same wine lying still somewhere cool and dark. I had been treating a vintage as a date on a calendar, when really it was a starting point my house had been adjusting ever since.

Drinking windows that know where the bottle lives

Tell Barello where each bottle is kept and its window moves to match. Storage is most of what decides whether a wine is early, ready, or going.

I always made a negroni

The bar had the same problem in a different shape. I wanted to try things. Every recipe I looked up needed one bottle I did not have, so I would close the tab and make a negroni again. The ambition was never the issue. Nothing I could find started from what was already on the shelf and worked forwards from there.

Every cocktail you can make right now

Tick what you own and Barello lists the drinks you can make from it tonight, plus the single bottle that would unlock the most new ones.

How we build

Barello is free to use, and joining early gets you more. Free is normal in this category, so here is what ours means: the whole cellar, the whole bar, and the full cocktail list.

We do not sell data and we do not run ads. An app holding a list of what is in your house has no business doing either, so the only model worth trusting is one where you eventually pay us and we work for you.

We also keep AI out of the parts that work better without it. Matching a cocktail to your shelf is a rules problem, not a language problem. Plain software is faster, costs nothing to run, and gives you the same answer twice.

Who we are

Barello is made by Wylliott Labs, a two-person studio in Melbourne with no investors and no staff. We also make Lyven, a household app for couples. We answer our own email, at hello@wylliott.com, and we read all of it.

Wanting to check who you are dealing with before you put your cellar in an app is fair. The company details and the registration are on the trust page.

Start with the shelf you already have. Tick your bottles and see what you can make tonight. No account needed.
