What cocktail can I make?Where it came from
Calabrese was running the Library Bar at the Lanesborough Hotel in 1996 when his wife, Sue, gave him toast with orange marmalade after a late shift; the bitter, tangy flavour stayed with him and he took the jar to work. He chose gin because marmalade felt so British. The drink was served at the Rainbow Room in New York at the launch of his book Classic Cocktails, and it has an ancestor of sorts in the Marmalade Cocktail of Harry Craddock's 1930 Savoy Cocktail Book.
