White Russian
A Black Russian with cream floated on top. The Black Russian dates from Brussels in 1949, the cream turned up in the 1960s, and The Big Lebowski made it famous in 1998.

- 20ml (⅔ oz) Coffee liqueur
- 30ml (1 oz) Creamor milk, for a lighter one
How to make it
- Fill a rocks glass with ice.
- Build the vodka and coffee liqueur over the ice and stir.
- Float the cream on top over the back of a spoon, or stir it through if you like it mixed.

What cocktail can I make?Where it came from
Its first known appearance in print is an advertisement for Coffee Southern, a short-lived coffee liqueur from the makers of Southern Comfort, which ran in the Boston Globe in March 1965 and the Oakland Tribune that November, giving equal parts liqueur, vodka and cream. Who first made it is not known, and despite the name neither it nor the Black Russian has any Russian origin: the 'Russian' is the vodka. In The Big Lebowski the Dude sometimes calls it a Caucasian.
