Harvey Wallbanger
A Screwdriver with Galliano floated on top, for vanilla and anise. A 1970s favourite, and the reason so many home bars still have a tall yellow bottle at the back.

- 90ml (3 oz) Orange juice
- 15ml (½ oz) Galliano
- 1 Orange slice optional

What cocktail can I make?Where it came from
The usual story has bartender Donato “Duke” Antone mixing it in 1952 at the Blackwatch bar in Hollywood for a surfer named Harvey, who banged his board against the walls; historians treat this as legend, not least because Antone was running a bartending school in Hartford at the time. The paper trail points to the late 1960s and McKesson Imports, Galliano’s US importer, whose marketing director George Bednar is credited with the slogan. Robert Simonson suspects Bednar asked Antone to devise a Galliano drink, and artist Bill Young’s cartoon surfer carried the campaign onto T-shirts, mugs and bumper stickers.
