What cocktail can I make?Where it came from
James Pimm, a farmer's son from Kent, ran oyster houses in the City of London, where he served his gin-based No. 1 Cup in small tankards; accounts date it to the 1820s or the 1840s. Pimm sold the business in 1865. Its later owner, Sir Horatio Davies, who went on to become Lord Mayor of London, sold it across Britain and the Empire. The first Pimm's bar at Wimbledon opened in 1971.
