The rules for using Barello, in plain words. By using the app you agree to them. They sit beside the privacy page, which says what happens to your data.
Who we are
Barello is made by Wylliott Labs Pty Ltd, an Australian company, ABN 94 701 857 525. "We" on this page means that company. You can reach us at hello@barello.app.
Who it's for
Barello is for adults of legal drinking age where they live. By joining you confirm that you are. It's for keeping track of your own household's bottles, not for running a bar, a shop or anyone else's cellar.
What it costs
Barello is free to use. It's still changing, and now and then something may break. Paid features will come later, as Barello Club. Paying for anything will always be your choice: we never charge you unless you choose to.
Foundation membership, and what "free for life" means
The first households to join Barello are its Foundation Members. For a Foundation household, everything Barello does on the day paid features launch stays free, for life, for as long as we run Barello. That includes reading a whole shelf of bottles from one photo and the overnight price lookups. Anything new we add after that day may be paid. We won't take away something a Foundation household has and then charge to get it back.
- Every household that joined while Barello was in beta is a Foundation Member. Nothing you were promised then gets smaller: "the app as it stands today, free for life" is now "the app as it stands on the day paid features launch, free for life", which is more.
- It belongs to the household, not one person. Someone you invite into your cellar is covered by it, and it stays with the cellar if one of you leaves.
- Places are limited. Foundation membership closes when paid features launch, or sooner if the places run out. The sign-up page says whether it is still open. Our own households and app-store review accounts don't take a place.
- A deleted household doesn't keep its place. If a Foundation household's account is deleted, by its members or because it went unused (below), its membership ends with it and isn't handed back if someone joins again later.
- You can see whether yours is a Foundation household in Settings, under Membership.
Households that join after Foundation membership closes can use Barello for free; features that are paid when they launch may be paid for them.
What the app tells you
- Drinking windows are a guide. They come from how each grape and style usually ages, adjusted for where you say the bottle is kept. A particular bottle can be better or worse than its window says.
- Prices are a guide too. They come from Australian shops, in Australian dollars, and they can be out of date. They are not what a wine costs where you live, and not a valuation.
- Pairings and cocktails are suggestions. Check the ingredients if you have an allergy.
- Label reading can be wrong. That's why you check it before anything is saved.
Barello doesn't sell alcohol, and it's not there to get anyone to drink more. It tracks what's in the house.
Your things stay yours
Your bottles, notes, ratings and photos belong to you. You let us store them and show them to the people in your household, which is what running the app takes, and nothing more. Please only upload photos you're happy for your household to see, and nothing of other people without their say-so.
An invite link gives whoever uses it the same access to the cellar as you, so send it only to someone you'd hand your cellar to.
Using it fairly
Don't try to get into other households' data, overload the app, or use it for anything unlawful. If someone does, we may close their account.
Leaving, and if we ever stop
You can delete your account whenever you like, in Settings. If we ever close Barello, we'll tell you at least 30 days ahead and offer you a copy of your data.
Accounts left unused for a long time. If nobody signs in to an account for two years, we may close it and delete its data, the same way you can delete it yourself. We'll email you at least 30 days before, and signing in any time before then keeps it open. If you share your cellar, the cellar stays with whoever is still using it. A Foundation household closed this way doesn't keep its place.
The legal part
We build Barello with care, but it is provided as it is, and to the extent the law allows, we're not responsible for decisions made on its windows, prices or suggestions. Nothing here takes away rights you have under consumer law that can't be taken away: in Australia the Australian Consumer Law, and elsewhere the consumer law where you live.
These terms are governed by the law of Victoria, Australia. That doesn't take away the protection of the consumer laws of the country you live in.
If these terms change
The date at the top moves. If a change matters, we say so in the app rather than quietly editing this page.
